Reflexology

What is reflexology?

Reflexology foot care massage relieving tension and treating illnesses.

Reflexology is a massage technique used to relieve tension and treat illness. It is a science based on the theory that there are reflex points on the hands and feet that are linked to different parts of the body.

Reflexology sessions are very relaxing. The treatment improves your blood circulation and lymphatic drainage. It also promotes nerve pathway unblocking, relaxes muscles, relieves stress and tension, and encourages your body to achieve its natural balance.

Pain, arthritis, migraine, headaches, stress related conditions, digestive disorders and hormonal imbalance are just some of the health concerns reflexology has been known to help.

Reflexology practitioners do not diagnose, prescribe or treat for one specific condition. Instead, we work holistically to balance your body as a whole.

How can I benefit from reflexology?

Reflexology works on the whole body, promoting balance and harmony. Reflexology is safe and suitable for men, women and children of all ages and can bring about relief from a wide range of symptoms.

What does reflexology do?
  • Improves blood circulation
  • Improves lymphatic drainage
  • Promotes the unblocking of nerve pathways
  • Relaxes muscles
  • Relieves stress and tension
  • Helps nature to achieve homeostasis (natural balance throughout the body)

At your first appointment we will discuss what you hope to achieve from your treatment. I will use this information to develop a personal treatment plan for you and answer your questions.

What should I expect?

Reflexologists trained under the International Institute of Reflexology will carry out treatments on both feet. This generally lasts around 60 minutes.

Please allow up to 75 minutes for your first appointment though as I begin with a full client consultation. This is where I take a full medical and social history in order to establish an overall picture of your health. I’ll examine your feet and practice some general relaxation techniques before ‘walking’ with my thumbs and fingers over all of the reflexes on your feet.

Everyone feels different effects from the therapy. I’ll detect any granular or crystalline deposits and tension in your feet. Where there are imbalances in your body the corresponding reflexes may be tender. This tenderness is only fleeting though.

You’ll feel a deep sense of relaxation through most of your treatment. As I disperse and expel any granular or crystalline deposits, a free flow of energy will be restored to your whole body. This improves circulation, eases tension and eliminates toxins, encouraging your body to heal itself naturally.

Each person is unique so their care and treatment is attuned to their personal needs.

How many treatments will I need?

Everyone is unique and will respond differently to reflexology. Whilst there are often immediate benefits, generally you should expect to have 3-4 treatments to see a significant benefit. We can discuss this at your initial consultation.

Regular reflexology treatments provide you with a very therapeutic way of maintaining health and vitality, combating the rigours of our stressful lives.
